During the filming of “8 1/2” at Cinnecitta studios in Rome, I was amazed to see Fellini cracking a huge 15ft whip whilst directing his cast.

Federico Fellini, Rome 1958 -by Cornel Lucas

Fellini had run away from boarding school in his youth, joined the circus and worked as a clown. With his whip I felt that he looked for all the world like a circus trainer. His experiences in the ring clearly had a marked affect on him; many of his films had an aura of the circus about them.
He had a bombastic, short-tempered personality when shooting - and he made no attempt to hide this side of himself when cameras were on him.
Here the ringmaster glares away from my untamed lens.
- comment by Cornel Lucas

NT JAM ROSIE

Tony was born in 1960 in Los Angeles, USA, of Mexican parents. He studied fine art and photography in New York, before switching to fashion and beauty illustration. This led him inevitably to Europe, where he worked for magazines and fashion houses in Italy and France. Viramontes made his debut in the late 1970’s, where his hard and direct style was a marked contrast to the prevailing soft pastel school of fashion illustration. He scored immediate success, rapidly acquiring the kind of prestigious editorial commissions too often allocated to photographers, from Lei in Italy, Vogue in the USA, The Face in Britain, as well as Marie Claire and Le Monde in France. Viramontes’ elegant art is fused with humour and fantasy, he found his inspiration everywhere, in the street, in music and dance.

In 1984, an exhibition of his work was held in Paris. He had been experimenting with photo-illustration, drawing over photographs and had planned to direct films during this period.

In 1985 the image for the cover of Arcadia’s So Red the Rose album, as well as the portraits of the band contained within were painted by Tony.

He also worked on the album artwork for Janet Jackson’s Control album

NINA SIMONE

Let us count the ways we love you. Erykah is someone who embodies that of a VAGABOND soul. She’s carefree, confident, well positioned in her foundation as a woman, and above all else glamourous. She has withheld her mark as someone who is an absolute trendsetter of mind, body, and soul. Last night, March 4th, she did a show at the Highline Stages. Although we played our cards right and RSVP’d (as per instructions), the door situation wasn’t quite as smooth as we had hoped. We decided we may have to sit this one out. I have posted this picture to spotlight of her VAGABOND GLORY… Hope you read this and know that we love you… and we hope ur show was a success, as we ALL know… it was.

It’s really easy enjoy this song. It’s easy, heavy, sensual, and slightly manipulative.. Reminiscent of perfume. Impacts just enough to seduce, and intoxicating enough to make you forget everything else while you’re in that exact moment of inhalation… Maybe a background song for Dior’s poison fragrance? All while vocal montages softly saying “Dior” sweep you off your feet….
